First, let me share a little of what my compositions are about. I wanted to write tales that have commercial appeal but that also make serious observations about people and society and ask meaningful questions along the way.
There are those who will say that these are dark works and that I must be a cynic to commit such negative ruminations to paper. But I am not a cynic. If I were a cynic, I would not have bothered to write at all or would have poured out banal formulaic commercial trash for the sole purpose of making money.
I do believe, however, that the darkness has to be faced and that for problems to be solved they must first of all be understood.
Do we fear the dark for its own sake or for what may be lurking within it? By shining a light into the darkness, we may no longer be at a disadvantage. One might even say that we need to look into the dark in order to see the light. If we can recognise our self-destructive tendencies, maybe we can change them.
